Industry Cottage is John Nicol’s freelance design business.

We are based in Gorebridge, a few miles south of Edinburgh. The business takes its name from the fact that our cottage (now the site of my design studio), and local area, was once at the very heart of the Scottish coal mining industry.

Industry may well have radically changed since, but we work closely with several businesses, in numerous sectors, as well as helping a host of smaller start-ups and individuals.

We work collaboratively with clients, experts in other fields, or functioning as a stand-alone resource. You might have a one-off project, or require ongoing support and input over the years. Whatever your needs, whatever timetable or challenges, we listen, and work hard to deliver.

Industry Cottage was established in 2014, after 15 years of agency and in-house roles. Real-world experience and knowledge, combined with a Master’s Degree in Fine Art, and technical expertise, give our clients a huge arc of passion and creativity to draw from.

Every project is different, but the objectives are always broadly the same – trying to make your business convey the best version of itself to your audience. As a trusted outsider with a vested interest in your success, we help optimise your business to do just that.
